Tonsillectomy surgery gone wrong leaves girl brain dead

New Jersey residents may be interested in what happened to a 13-year-old girl who went in for a tonsillectomy. It's the third most common procedure for children in the U.S., but this alleged surgery gone wrong left the girl brain dead and her parents searching for answers. No surgery is 100 percent safe, no matter how many times it has been performed. This danger is the reason for the detailed consent forms that patients must fill out before they go under the knife.

Family of brain-damaged girl fight with doctors over life support

This week news emerged about a teenage girl who went into the hospital for a routine tonsillectomy and just a half hour after the surgery began experiencing complications that eventually led to her suffering from brian damage. Now declared brain dead by the hospital, the girl is on a ventilator as her family fights to keep her on life support.

Investigation begins after transplant controversy

A federal investigation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is underway against a hospital and several doctors for allegations of disability discrimination. The investigation follows an ordeal in which two parents had to fight doctors to get their son a heart-saving transplant after they believed doctors had provided them with false information about why they were not recommending a heart transplant.
