Failure to diagnose cancer can have deadly results

Certain diseases and illnesses tend to have a small time frame for successful treatment. After that time frame has passed, treatment may become more difficult and severe and may even be less likely to be effective. Patients in New Jersey who have suffered from a failure to diagnose cancer may understand this better than most.

In the United States, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While this effort is mostly geared toward women, it is important to note that both men and women may be victims of this terrifying and aggressive cancer. Luckily, advancements by the medical and scientific communities have made diagnosing diseases such as breast cancer easier and more successful.

Despite these advancements, some doctors still miss crucial symptoms or test results that indicate a patient may be suffering from breast cancer. When a healthcare worker blatantly ignores these indications, a patient may ultimately suffer more than is necessary, and their prospect for recovery could be greatly decreased. Unfortunately, this can even have deadly consequences for a patient who, if they had been diagnosed in a timely manner, may have had a good chance of recovery.

Whether through a personal diagnosis or that of a friend or family member, many people in New Jersey and across America have been affected by breast cancer. Sadly, some of those affected may have also been the victim of a failure to diagnose cancer. If a loved one succumbed to their cancer after their initial concerns or symptoms were ignored by an attending doctor, his or her estate may be eligible for compensation. If you're unsure of how to proceed in attempting to hold a doctor responsible, our firm understands what it takes to prove medical negligence and liability.
