Hospital negligence results in unnecessary surgery for newborn

What could be New Jersey patients' worst nightmare became a reality for an out-of-state couple when hospital officials confused their newborn son with another baby. The days-old newborn underwent a minor surgical procedure without the knowledge or consent of his parents. Such levels of hospital negligence can be especially dangerous for patients.

Family set to receive $9 million for son's brain damage

Oxygen deprivation poses a serious risk to infants still in the womb and can cause severe and permanent injuries if not addressed in a quick and timely manner. New Jersey parents expect that attending physicians will practice the necessary amount of preventative care in order to prevent fetal distress and brain damage during the labor process. When a newborn is permanently injured because of negligent care, parents are often justified in seeking appropriate compensation.

Wrong-site surgery blamed on hospital negligence

Wrong-site surgeries are the things of horror movies or dramatic television shows. Characters awaken from anesthesia, groggy and confused, only to find that their operation took place on the completely wrong side of their body. Unfortunately, this type of hospital negligence is not isolated to the big screen, and real-live patients in New Jersey suffer the consequences of negligent surgeons.

Medical misdiagnosis, you may be at risk

According to a recent study published in the journal BMJ Quality & Safety, 1 in 20 patients will be misdiagnosed every year. That is approximately 12 million adult patients who have illnesses or conditions misdiagnosed annually. Researchers of the study believe that half of misdiagnosed cases result in severe harm to the patient.
