Hospital negligence could have permanent effects in New Jersey

Suffering from a medical issue can be a frightening experience. The situation can become even more difficult to accept when patients feel as if their concerns are not being addressed. In some cases, if doctors or other staff do not take the necessary actions to ensure that the patient receives the proper care, cases of hospital negligence could result.

New Jersey residents may be interested in one out-of-state case that recently reached a verdict. Reports stated that the negligence claim was filed after it took months for a woman to receive requested testing. The woman and her mother had gone to the doctor due to the woman's suffering from fatigue, tremors, insomnia and other symptoms. Initially, the doctor attributed the issues to the woman's pre-existing anxiety and depression.

The woman and her mother wanted neurological testing, but the doctor did not wish to carry out those tests. It was not until months later when the woman's condition continued to worsen that a brain scan was conducted. The scan showed signs of a hereditary disease, which had caused brain damage. As a result, the woman must now be fed through a tube and suffered a myriad of other negative effects. She subsequently filed a lawsuit, and the jury hearing the case recently awarded the woman $28.9 million due to negligence on the part of the hospital.

As this case shows, hospital negligence can have devastating effects. The outcomes can change a person's way of life forever, and seeking compensation for such results is often warranted. If New Jersey residents have suffered in such a manner under similar circumstances, they may wish to consider filing lawsuits of their own.
