After suffering a serious medical event, timing can play a significant role in how the issue is treated and the injuries it may cause. Unfortunately, the failure to diagnose an issue could result in a patient suffering severe negative effects. New Jersey residents may be interested in one out-of-state man who suffered such an incident.
Reports stated that the man had gone to the hospital due to experiencing slurred speech, drooling and drooping on one side of his face. An MRI was conducted on the man, and a radiologist read the scan and concluded that it did not show any brain abnormalities. However, several hours after this initial reading, staff at another medical facility read the scans and found a blockage to a major artery that provided blood to the brain and nervous system.
As a result of the delayed diagnosis, the man experienced respiratory failure and acute hypoxia. He then went into a coma. He suffered traumatic brain injury as a result of his ordeal, which left him with partial paralysis. As a result, the man has filed a lawsuit and is seeking over $9 million in compensation for damages.
As this case shows, the failure to diagnose a medical issue in a timely manner can delay treatment and cause considerable trauma. If New Jersey residents have been the victims of similar circumstances, they may wish to consider pursuing a lawsuit of their own. Speaking with experienced medical malpractice attorneys could allow interested individuals to gain useful information that could be applied to their pursuit of justice and recompense.
