Hospital negligence: Contaminated tools may cause patients harm

Going to the hospital can often cause many New Jersey residents to experience anxiety. Of course, medical attention is often needed for individuals who need to have an injury, illness or other health condition examined and treated. However, it is also not unusual for patients to suffer additional medical problems due to hospital negligence.

It was recently reported that a couple in another state have chosen to pursue a lawsuit in relation to medical malpractice. Apparently, the husband had gone to the hospital for treatment of an undisclosed issue, and while being treated, the attending physician reportedly used contaminated medical equipment. Reports stated that the doctor did not change needles between patients when diluting certain medication and also used multi-use saline vials.

As a result of this negligence, the patient was exposed to blood-borne pathogens, and he contracted hepatitis C. This development caused the man to suffer pain, mental anguish and the accumulation of medical expenses. Additionally, the man's wife claims to have suffered loss of companionship and services. The couple hope that their lawsuit will successfully allow them to gain compensatory and punitive damages.

As this case shows, hospital negligence could easily cause patients to suffer from infections and illnesses due to contamination. Therefore, if New Jersey residents have suffered in a similar manner, they may wish to explore their legal options for filing medical malpractice claims of their own. Interested individuals may want to enlist the assistance of experienced attorneys to ensure that they fully understand their options and the best methods for seeking compensation.
