Foreign object left after surgery may cause issues in New Jersey

After the birth of a child, many parents feel joyous. Of course, delivery can sometimes cause complications that lead to the mother needing emergency care. In some cases, surgery may be required in order to attend to those issues and ensure the health of the mother. Unfortunately, some procedures could end up causing problems of their own if a foreign object left behind is discovered later.

New Jersey residents may be interested in the case of one out-of-state woman who recently went through such an ordeal. Reports stated that she had given birth to her child when it was noticed that she had continual bleeding. As a result, she was transported to an operating room for surgery in order to stop the bleeding. After going home, the woman stated that she knew something was not right.

She began to experience pain and had a difficult time moving around. In addition to those issues, she also noticed a terrible odor. Two weeks after the surgery, the woman went back to the hospital, and it was discovered that the doctor had left behind a foot-long piece of gauze in her body. An additional surgery was required to remove the gauze, which could have caused infection or even cancer had it gone undiscovered.

foreign object left in the body of a patient after surgery is unfortunately relatively common. Nonetheless, New Jersey patients and other individuals could easily suffer considerably negative effects as an outcome of such a mistake. Parties who have been the victims of such errors and needed additional procedures or treatment as a result may wish to consider their options for filing medical malpractice claims in hopes of seeking compensation for damages.
