Negligent actions in any type of situation could lead to negative outcomes. When an individual or family must deal with the repercussions of hospital negligence, they may feel a particular sense of dismay as the resulting health issues can have lasting impacts. Unfortunately, many people are affected by this type of problem every year.
New Jersey residents may be interested in one family whose medical malpractice claim recently came to a settlement. Reports stated that the situation began in 2011 when a woman was admitted to the hospital in order to have a procedure done to address an abdominal hernia. The woman ended up staying in the hospital overnight, and during that time, her oxygen levels became significantly low. As a result, she suffered a stroke.
The family filed a lawsuit claiming that the hospital staff did not properly address her respiratory issues. The legal case has been ongoing for four years, but through mediation, all parties involved were recently able to come to a settlement agreement of $3 million. A judge recently approved the settlement, and after distributions for legal fees and a medical lien, the woman and her daughter will obtain $1.5 million while the woman's husband will receive $383,000.
When dealing with acts of hospital negligence, many people may feel without hope. Because the damage has already been done, they may think that they have no options for seeking justice for the negative outcomes. Luckily, medical malpractice claims could help New Jersey residents seek compensation as the family in this case chose to do. Interested parties wishing to gain more information on this option may want to speak with knowledgeable attorneys.
