Unnecessary surgery could result from hospital negligence

Many people are devastated when they learn that they may have a serious medical condition or the potential to develop serious health issues. As a result, New Jersey residents faced with such circumstances may do what they can to help better their health. Unfortunately, due to hospital negligence, some parties may find out too late that they did not have the health issues they were taking measures to address.

One woman in another state has recently filed a lawsuit due to such a problem. Reports stated that the woman went through genetic testing to determine whether she had markers that could indicate a high likelihood of developing breast, ovarian and other cancers. After her test results came in, she was informed that she did face a substantial risk such cancers.

In order to address this potential -- and at her doctor's recommendation -- the woman underwent a hysterectomy and a double mastectomy. It was only after she went to another doctor to address complications from the surgeries that she discovered that she had been told the wrong test results. She did not have a genetic predisposition for the cancers that she underwent invasive surgeries in hopes of preventing. This information led her to file a medical malpractice lawsuit against two doctors and a nurse practitioner.

Undergoing any type of surgery is a major ordeal. When individuals learn that the procedures were not necessary, they may feel completely shocked and dismayed. As this case shows, this type of situation could easily result from hospital negligence and lead to substantial life changes. If New Jersey residents feel that they were the victims of such negligence or other types of surgical errors, they may wish to find out more information on their legal options.
